This week, Rose is with friends in Marseille and wanted to share some of the delicious flavours and experiences with you all!
Marseille is having a bit of a moment right now, and it’s easy to understand why. Nestled on the Mediterranean amongst rocky steep-walled narrow sea inlets known as calanques, with the produce of Provence at her doorstep, Marseille has the perfect balance of food, culture, and nature. And thanks to fashion designer, Simon Porte Jacquemus and others it’s also very trendy (there is also a fair bit of crime, so like most big cities, be a little wary).
Marseille is a big port city, with boats arriving every day from across Europe and North Africa, which means that there is a huge influence from the African diaspora in the food and culture of the city. Marseille is seriously delicious — a typical day might involve French pastries for breakfast, an Algerian toasted panini with harissa, pickles, and grilled vegetables for lunch, and a pizza on the rocks for dinner after a lazy afternoon in the sun, or dinner at a groovy cave à manger (wine bar).
