Cooking Up Something New
Introducing: What to Cook Tonight, a new weekly newsletter with three delicious recipes for home cooks, using seasonally available (and affordable) ingredients.
It is now well and truly autumn — that time of year when we start getting a little bit cozy, spending more time at home, and hopefully cooking some comforting meals.
With this new season, it feels like an appropriate time to announce that we are launching another newsletter! It will come out once a week and will be for paid subscribers only (more on that later).
After a lot of research, conversations, and thinking, it seems a hurdle we all face is the daily “what’s for dinner” dilemma. At least once a week we’ll get a text from a girlfriend that goes something along the lines of: “I have a cauliflower, chicken thighs, and half a bag of spinach — what should I make!?”. So, we thought about how we could create a solution.
Introducing: What to Cook Tonight. A weekly newsletter with three delicious recipes for home cooks, using seasonally available (and affordable) ingredients. For now, we’re going to focus on the southern hemisphere (sorry) but if there is enough interest, we will do the northern hemisphere too! Stay tuned and do let us know what you think about this.
We’ve designed the recipes to complement one another — reducing waste and saving you time and money. For example, one night you might make a curry and cook some extra rice that you’ll use later in the week for fried rice. Or if you use basil for one recipe and have some left, we’ll ensure you use the rest later in the week too. You get the gist. This also means that if you have a smaller household, you’re less likely to come into the “what do I do with half an onion” problem.
Why paid? We’ve spent a lot of time concepting, testing, and developing these recipes. Putting them into a weekly menu, writing shopping lists, cross-referencing local produce prices, and sharing ideas and methods for substitutions and variations all takes a lot of valuable time. We also want to be able to commit to giving you the best, most considered, thoughtful emails possible!
The idea is that we’ve done all the thinking for you, so you don’t have to. Giving you more time to enjoy your life — whether that’s sneaking in a yoga class, reading your book, getting out into nature, or spending more time with your family. The subscription price is $8 a month, and you can also get an annual subscription for $80. If the monthly price is out of budget for you, let us know at hello@langbein.com and we can see what we can do to make it work.
It’s so easy to get stuck in a rut, eating the same dinners week in and week out. Our hope for What to Cook Tonight is to change that! Yummy, fresh, satisfying, nourishing and always flavourful dinners that make you excited to cook and eat. If any of this piques your interest, we do hope you’ll click the green button below and upgrade to a paid subscriber!
And don’t worry, our existing monthly newsletter will still be available for all subscribers — you don’t need to do anything or change your preferences to continue to receive these.
To keep you entertained in the meantime, you might like to try Annabel’s #feed4for15 meal that she developed with Kenwood — a super speedy recipe for Black Bean Tacos with Homemade Tortillas & Chipotle Aioli. And the best part? The ingredients cost just $15 for a meal for 4 people! Do let us know what you think of this and if you would like us to develop more low-cost family meals in the coming months.
Thank you so much for all your support, paid or otherwise, we adore this community and can’t wait to watch it continue to grow and evolve.
With love,
Annabel & Rose xx
What a great idea! I have this condition all the time. I don't know what to make for dinner anymore, and I don't want to think about it after the work day. I'm sure a series of posts like this would appeal to a lot of people, especially considering your approach to it. I wish you the best of luck with this one!
